For the theme of Hard Hack 2024, we created a hardware-based Infrared (IR) tag game you can play with friends when "the party never stops". Each player has a gun which acts as both IR emitter and an IR receiver, and they have 3 lives. Every time the other player shoots their gun, an audio cue plays from the speaker indicating that a life has been lost.

Track C: Beginner - Mission Get Home Safely

Sonar and motion sensor gadget that will protect you from the dark in two kinds of scenarios :1) with the flashing LED and buzzing sound emanated upon detecting a body in range, scaring away any animals lurking close by while also ensuring you don't bump into any object while walking in the dark and 2) The infrared sensor detects motion in a 3m radius, switching on the LED and thus making you aware of any potential threats around you.

The Sixth Sense Glove is a device designed to allow users to discretely navigate in the dark should a situation arise requiring doing tasks without alerting others to their presence. The Sixth Sense Glove consists of an ultrasonic sensor that broadcasts high-frequency sound waves in order to determine the distance of an object within 2 meters of the wearer. The distance is then communicated to the wearer via vibration, wherein as an object gets closer to the wearer, the vibration becomes more intense.

Track A: Advanced - A Good Time Never Ends

This is a way to bring the flashing lights and fun music remixing and sounds to your own home. Since we believe one of the best aspects of going out /raving/partying/clubbing is the music and lights, we wanted to bring that to a more "at home" version, allowing the good time to continue even after the initial party.

Track B: Intermediate - Operation Caffeine

We chose Track B- Operation Caffeine and our team wanted to find a way for people to pull all-nighters without caffeine in order to prevent caffeine addiction and other health problems related to caffeine. Our idea was to create a wearable device, similar to a wrist-watch. The user sets how long they want to stay up at night for. From the current time to the user-inputted time they want to stay up at night for, the watch buzzes at random intervals and once it buzzes, it displays a task for the user to perform. Once the user completes the task, the buzzer detects completion of the activity and goes off. This helps the user to stay alert throughout the night and prevents them from going to sleep. Track C: Beginner - Mission Get Home Safely

We implemented a system which would help drivers receive real-time safety messages from their cars to help overcome unsafe driving conditions at night. Our idea is to convey messages via a roadside light with text encoded in the light's frequency that can be decoded by a light sensor within passing cars. We also implement an RFID system, similar to FasTrak, to notify the car when it's in range of a message-emitting light.

SunBot
Track B: Intermediate - Operation Caffeine

SunBot is a friendly bot that buzzes a loud noise and flashes lights at you whenever it detects that you have fallen asleep. Using an arduino uno board, some wires, LEDs, a light display, and a motion sensor, it is able to detect if you are asleep. It does this by detecting if the user is moving at all, if they are moving they are "awake," and if they are found not moving, they are "asleep," triggering multiple alerts

Track A: Advanced - A Good Time Never Ends

Our product is the SafeSignal Coaster. Often at parties or other social gatherings, cups get mixed up, lost, and/or go unlabeled. They also only have the simple boring functionality of just being able to drink out of it. With our product, we transform the experience of cups into a whole new world. We introduce 3 features with our coaster: "Where's my cup?" "Sound reactive mode" and "Tamper detection via accelerometer." To the user, there will be a visible LED strip around the rim of the coaster. Inside we have an ESP32-S3 as the brains, along with a microphone & accelerometer circuit to enable the 3 functions. In addition, we have Web GUI for the user to interact. Very often at social gatherings cups get mixed around and no one knows who's is who. The "Where's my cup" feature would light up the LED strip around the rim in a rotating fashion and blink continuously until the user finds the cup and turns the feature off through the app. The music feature enables the LED to follow the beat of the music around it to liven up the party. And finally the lock feature is for when you leave your cup, you can "lock" it so it will alert whether or not someone has tampered with your cup from moving it. Additionally, it features a sleek non-intrusive design that doesn't impede the party experience. A suction cup attachment method so it is easily attachable and reattachable. It is also USB-C rechargeable.
